The building of the Kaptai Hydro-Electric
Project diverted waters, which subsequently
submerged an area of 680 square kilometers
in the country's eastern hilly regions. As
a result, the districts of Rangamati and Bandarban
became the largest manmade lake of the world.
The blue limpid water of the lake twists in
countless ways through the surrounding lush
green hills, a habitation for various tribes
and a wonderful repository of splendor, which
resembles the beauty of a Kashmir valley.
A 77-kilometer drive from
the port city of Chittagong, through the tribal
villages nestled down in the valleys, brings
us to this exotic lake. It is a unique place
for cruising, boating, swimming, and fishing.
Added attractions are visits to different
tribal villages on the hilltops, including
drives on jungle tracks in the tribal region.
The other attractions are open-air tribal
markets, tribal handicrafts, a tribal king's
palace, the tribal museum, and many other
sights of great interest.
Let yourself be surprised by
this unspoiled beauty.
