Situated on an alluvial plain, Bangladesh is a
multicultural country full of beautiful scenery
inhabited by a population rich in traditions and
time-honored rituals, especially as the topography
changes in the eastern regions.
There are as many
as 27 different tribes living in Bangladesh most of
whom live in the eastern hilly regions. Each tribe
has their own customs and traditions, religion, and
language. Their differences in customs and
traditions are rooted in a variety of aboriginal
elements that have dominated their lives throughout
the centuries. The majority of these tribes are
matriarchal. They grow their own food on hilltop
farms as well as down in the valleys, and weave
their own clothes. The men folk
concentrate on
hunting while the women are the main working
force—among other things, they are skilled in making
handicrafts. Among the commonly known tribes are
the: Mog, Murong, Tipara, Gharo, Chakma, Marma,
Khashia, Kuki, Khumi, Lusai, Bom, etc. All these
tribes appear to be of East Asian ethnic descent.
Note: We have kept
days open to visit the tribal areas and observe
their way of life and culture in our Tour 02. On top
of this, we offer an exclusive tour package (Tour
05) to explore the tribal life and culture.
